Licensing & delivery
Data licensing — Compare Data Brokers
ANSWER IN BRIEF
Data licensing is an arrangement granting specified rights to use data under agreed terms. The scope of those rights matters as much as the files delivered or the headline payment.
Describe the permission
Identify the data, recipient and proposed uses before comparing proposals. Questions include whether use covers training, evaluation, internal research or a commercial product, and whether onward sharing is permitted. Ask how the agreement treats derived outputs and future versions.
Licensing can allow the company to retain ownership while granting defined use rights. Confirm the actual arrangement rather than assuming that every offer described as a data purchase transfers the same rights.
A company data example
A buyer might request a one-time copy of selected operational records for an agreed training use. Another might want continued updates and wider redistribution rights. These are different scopes even if their initial payments are similar.
Write down duration, exclusivity, delivery, acceptance, payment and handling requirements side by side. Resolve who can authorize the proposed use and which restrictions come from customer, employee or supplier relationships before sharing a sample.
Connect the terms to the offer
An estimate is not the license itself. Use it to begin the discussion, then assess a written proposal against the rights and obligations it actually specifies.
