Comparing broker proposals on a common basis — Compare Data Brokers

ANSWER IN BRIEF

Compare proposals using the same dataset, rights, delivery work and cost basis. Preserve the difference between estimates and offers, and show unresolved conditions beside the proposed net proceeds rather than hiding them in a single headline figure.

Create one commercial comparison sheet

Record the provider, date, proposal status and dataset version. Include gross consideration, known fees, preparation responsibilities and payment conditions. Label each entry as an estimate, indication or offer. The sheet should make it difficult to accidentally compare a speculative opportunity with a proposal that has specific buyer obligations and acceptance conditions.

Normalize what can be normalized

Ask each party to price or describe the same rights and delivery scenario where feasible. Separate one-time work from recurring contributions. If a proposal includes a broader scope, retain it as a distinct alternative rather than editing away the difference. A consistent comparison does not mean pretending every commercial option is identical.

  • Label proposal status and dataset version.
  • Separate matched scenarios from alternatives.
  • Record conditions and unknown costs beside proceeds.

Show uncertainty without false precision

Mark missing costs, conditional payments and unresolved scope questions clearly. Avoid substituting an unsupported probability or invented discount for uncertainty. Ask which evidence would resolve each material issue. Two apparently similar net figures can lead to different decisions if one depends on extensive unpaid preparation or acceptance criteria that have not been defined.

Document why the company chooses

Summarize the preferred next step and the factors supporting it, including any tradeoffs the company accepts. DataVal’s independent estimate can frame the initial opportunity and its connections can help explore alternatives. An introduction is not an offer, and an offer is not a completed sale. Keep the decision record with the proposal versions.

What makes this comparison useful?

The same starting scope, a recorded source for each material statement, and a clear account of differences or unknowns that could change the company’s decision.
